Affordable<\/strong>: Cloud computing services are purchased subscription style, with users paying only for what they use.\u00a0 No capital outlay for servers, storage devices or staffing to keep systems running is required.<\/p>\n

Cloud Computing<\/strong>: Provides users access to IT-related capabilities (infrastructure and\/or applications) “as a service” without regard for the underlying technology or physical hardware.\u00a0 Inherent in this solution is a high level of resiliency and variable capacity.<\/p>\n

Cloud Server<\/strong>: A “server” is simply an operating system leveraging the pool of CPU and Ram resources available from the underlying physical hardware also referred to as a virtual server.<\/p>\n

Cloud app<\/strong> –\u00a0 a software application that is never installed on a local machine \u2014 it\u2019s always accessed over the Internet.<\/p>\n

Cloud arcs<\/strong> \u2013 short for cloud architectures. Designs for software applications that can be accessed and used over the Internet.\u00a0 (Cloud-chitecture is just too hard to pronounce.)<\/p>\n

Cloud bridge<\/strong> \u2013 running an application in such a way that its components are integrated within multiple cloud environments (which could be any combination of internal\/private and external\/public clouds).<\/p>\n

Cloudcenter<\/strong> \u2013 a large company, such as Amazon, that rents its infrastructure.<\/p>\n

Cloud client<\/strong> \u2013 computing device for cloud computing. Updated version of thin client.<\/p>\n

Cloud enabler<\/strong> \u2013 vendor that provides technology or service that enables a client or other vendor to take advantage of cloud computing.<\/p>\n

Cloud envy<\/strong> \u2013 used to describe a vendor who jumps on the cloud computing bandwagon by rebranding existing services.<\/p>\n

Cloud OS <\/strong>– also known as platform-as-a-service (PaaS). Think Google Chrome.<\/p>\n

Cloud portability<\/strong> \u2013 the ability to move applications and associated data across multiple cloud computing environments.<\/p>\n

Cloud provider<\/strong> \u2013 makes storage or software available to others over a private network or public network (like the Internet.)<\/p>\n

Cloud service architecture (CSA) <\/strong>– an architecture in which applications and application components act as services on the Internet<\/p>\n

Cloud storage<\/strong> \u2013 (just what it says) Sometimes compared to leasing a car \u2013 you\u2019ll have monthly payments but hopefully you\u2019ll always have the lastest\/greatest technology. You\u2019ll never own the technology though.<\/p>\n

Cloudburst <\/strong>– what happens when your cloud has an outage or security breach and your data is unavailable.<\/p>\n

Cloud as a service (CaaS) <\/strong>–\u00a0 a cloud computing service that has been opened up into a platform that others can build upon.<\/p>\n

Cloud-oriented architecture (COA)<\/strong> \u2013 IT architecture that lends itself well to incorporating cloud computing components.<\/p>\n

Cloudsourcing<\/strong> \u2013 outsourcing storage or taking advantage of some other type of cloud service.<\/p>\n

Cloudstorm<\/strong> \u2013 connecting multiple cloud computing environments. Also called cloud network.<\/p>\n

Cloudware<\/strong> \u2013 software that enables building, deploying, running or managing applications in a cloud computing environment.<\/p>\n

Cloudwashing<\/strong> \u2013 slapping the word \u201ccloud\u201d on products and services you already have.<\/p>\n

External cloud<\/strong> \u2013 a cloud computing environment that is external to the boundaries of the organization.<\/p>\n

Flexible Capacity<\/strong>:\u00a0 This flexible capacity is a key difference between cloud computing and traditional outsourcing and hosted data centers. Clouds, like the one provided by BlueLock, gives clients access to essentially “unlimited capacity on demand.<\/p>\n

Funnel cloud<\/strong> \u2013 discussion about cloud computing that goes round and round but never turns into action (never \u201ctouches the ground\u201d)<\/p>\n

Hybrid cloud<\/strong> \u2013 a computing environment that combines both private and public cloud computing environments.<\/p>\n

Internal cloud<\/strong> \u2013 also called a private cloud. A cloud computing-like environment within the boundaries of an organization.<\/p>\n

On Demand<\/strong>: One of the primary advantages of using the cloud is the ability to access resources as you need them, including processing power, of memory, network bandwidth, and gigabytes of storage.<\/p>\n

Personal cloud<\/strong> \u2013 synonymous with something called MiFi, a personal wireless router. It takes a mobile wireless data signal and translates it to wi-fi.\u00a0 It\u2019s pronounced ME-fi, as in \u201cthe personal cloud belongs to me \u2014 but if you\u2019re nice I\u2019ll let you connect.\u201d<\/p>\n

Private cloud<\/strong> \u2013 an internal cloud behind the organization\u2019s firewall. The company\u2019s IT department provides softwares and hardware as a service to its customers \u2014 the people who work for the company. Vendors love the words \u201cprivate cloud.\u201d<\/p>\n

Public cloud<\/strong> \u2013 a cloud computing environment that is open for use to the general public.<\/p>\n

Roaming workloads<\/strong>– the backend product of cloudcenters.<\/p>\n

Vertical cloud<\/strong> \u2013 a cloud computing environment optimized for use in a particular vertical industry
\n<\/strong><\/p>\n

Virtual<\/strong>: Is a process by which multiple operating systems (servers) run on a single piece of hardware or physical server<\/p>\n

Virtual private cloud (VPC)<\/strong> \u2013 similar to VPN but applied to cloud computing. Can be used to bridge private cloud and public cloud environments.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
