Apple has been rumored to be working on its “iWatch” smartwatch for a while now, and the industry has long expected Apple to unveil some sort of smartwatch, following the release of Samsung Electronics\u2019 Galaxy Gear watches.<\/p>\n

Apple has already started work on trademarking the name in a number of countries in preparation for a late 2014 launch, and is preparing to sell its first wearable device this October, aiming to produce 3 million to 5 million smartwatches a month in its initial run.<\/p>\n

Because we don’t yet know what an Apple iWatch will look like Few specific details about the iWatch had been available, but new reports suggest the iWatch will have a flexible AMOLED display supplied by LG<\/span><\/a>, which will come in two separate sizes (3,3 cm and 3,8 cm), to accommodate different sized wrists. It is also expected to have a durable sapphire crystal display, since Apple recently signed a deal<\/span><\/a> with GT<\/span> Advanced.<\/p>\n

In addition to serving as an accessory to the iPhone and the other iOS devices, giving users at-a-glance access to common functions and notifications, the iWatch is also expected to include several different biometric sensors. The iWatch may be able to track<\/span><\/a> health-related metrics like steps taken, calories burned, sleep quality, heart rate, and more. Apple is said to be aiming to make the health-tracking experience more accessible<\/span><\/a> to the general public, so it remains to be seen how complex the included sensors will be.<\/span><\/p>\n

The investors are hoping to see a new Apple pro<\/span>duct this year to galvanize the former stock market darling\u2019s share price and end a years-long drought of ground-breaking devices. CEO Tim Cook has promised \u201cnew product categories\u201d in 2014.<\/p>\n
