The Internet of Things will affect many aspects of our daily lives and many, over time, will change, for example:

Traffic management and transport

Increasingly smart traffic lights, parking lots.

Electrical networks

Improving the safety and reliability of infrastructure.

Factories 2.0

Higher line efficiency production.

Waste Management

Payment of taxes on the basis of variable.

Marketing in real time

Highly targeted monitoring and real-time customer behavior.

Road safety

Through notifications to the driver to make his drive safer.

Health monitoring

Real-time control of the health status of the patient

Automated Buildings

Complete control of water, electricity and household appliances.

In addition to all these the new homes can now boast smart thermostats and smart meters so you don’t waste any energy, and you can even choose to have a smart toilet installed if you so wish, which will be able to detect if you have cancer or just let you know if you need to change your eating habits.

There are myriad ways that energy users can benefit from the Internet of Things revolution. With the rise of smart meters and newer smart thermostats, utilities customers to be much more efficient with their use of energy.

Heating systems can be totally transformed using devices like Hive and Google Nest, with sensors in each room able to react quickly to fluctuations in temperature and turn the heat up or down accordingly. You can also set radiators to come on remotely, so if you’re travelling home or into an office and the temperature suddenly drops, you can set the heating to switch on, so the premises are warm on arrival. Sensors can also be added to lighting systems, so they can switch on and off as people wander in and out of office areas or rooms in houses, offering great potential for doing your bit for the environment and saving on electricity bills.

There are countless millions of vehicles on the road, on rails and in the sky and getting them online is definitely one of the next big innovations those in the transport sector are considering. Cars are the most obvious example, with the ability to hook up vehicles to the internet and stream data opening up opportunities to reduce traffic, pollution and accidents.

Supply chain is hugely important for a retailer, especially a fresh food retailer. If they order too much it ends up getting wasted. Tesco has clearly not solved this problem yet, as the firm revealed it generated almost 30,000 tonnes of food waste in the first six months of 2013. And the industry-wide, 68 percent of salad sold in bags is thrown away, according to Tesco. But IoT could offer the technology to make sure retailers get it right, by letting them better track stats and data over the movement of food items from origin to consumption or discard.

The manufacturing industry is expected to reap huge benefits from the Internet of Things revolution, with internet-connected devices allowing for faster-time to market, cost-savings and more responsive and efficient production and servicing. Thanks to the Internet of Things, manufacturers will be able to reduce errors, increase flexibility and, ultimately, bring products to market quicker. This should increase competiton as manaufacturers will be able to develop, make and distribute products more quickly.

According to recent studies conducted by Cisco, seems to assert the idea that the phenomenon of the Internet of Things will have an impact that will be much more impressive and higher than what the internet was decades ago. This phenomenon will completely transform the world of things around us and the way in which humans interact with technology, once again we can re-confirm that the technology can be considered as a kind of extension of the body.

In this case it is natural to expect that the popular smartphone, with a simple command, will make even the coffee in the future!

Source: www.esds.co.in, www.v3.co.uk

For some time now, futurists have imagined an “Internet of things” where everything from vehicles to appliances are part of one big network.
